Here it is, my annual round-up meme. These questions always make me think a little bit. I don't always answer the questions very deeply, but I certainly think deeply about them. Tonight I look back. Tomorrow, I'll look forward. Here we go (friends encouraged to click beneath the cut):
1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
1) Went to Kenya.
2) Sold a story to Orson Scott Card's Intergalactic Medicine Show.
3) Took five days away from home to write. Just write.
4) Painted my home and rearranged the rooms (with lots of help).
5) Took time off from working full time without registering for Unemployment. It was the least stressful time I've ever had. Wonderful.
6) Signed up for eHarmony.com.
2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Didn't make any last year. I may set goals for 2008. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea. Tomorrow will be the day for that.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes: Rabbi David Honigsberg
dochyel, whose love and friendship had an enormous impact on my life. He left us too soon and with so much unfinished. I've thought of him literally every day since his death. He's always with me.
5. What countries did you visit?
Canada, Kenya, England.
6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
A finished novel. More bookcases and storage in my home.
7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
March 27, 2007: The date of David's death.
September 2, 2007: The day I left for Kenya.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Selling that story to Orson Scott Card's Intergalactic Medicine Show.
Getting myself to Kenya.
Started the room switcheroo.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not finishing my novel.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not really. A cold here and there, but I was fine for the most part.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My MacBook Pro, Nikon D80, and my iPod. Big year for technology at Chez
scarlettina. And my leather jacket.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
snarke and
ironymaiden for making it possible for me to go back east for David's funeral. Bless them both.
13. Whose behavior, what situations appalled and depressed you?
The President of the United States, as usual.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Debt, mortgage, technology and travel.
15. What events did you get really, really, really excited about?
1) Going to Kenya and England.
2) Getting my new camera.
3) The room switcheroo.
16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
"Defying Gravity."
17. Compared to this time last year, you areā¦
Employed, a little heavier, wearing my hair shorter. A little more self-confident, a little less concerned about what other people think.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I wish I'd written more fiction. I wish I'd written more e-mail to David before his death. Exercised. Corresponded or talked with
kradical more. Talk with
setsyoustraight more.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Watched TV. Overeat.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
Sick in bed with sniffles.
21. Did you fall in love in 2007?
Yes.
22. What was your favorite TV program?
A tie: Doctor Who and Project Runway, like last year.
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Still not a fan of our president.
24. What was the best book you read?
Too many to name.
25. What was your greatest musical discovery or rediscovery?
Kristian Leontiou.
26. What did you want and get?
A Nikon D80 and an iPod.
27. What did you want and not get?
The ANA scholarship. The Writers of the Future win. To sell "Down to the Bone Water"--and yes, it was out on submission, so I did my part.
28. What were your favorite films of this year?
Stardust. Doubletime.
I didn't see nearly enough movies this year.
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 45. I had dinner with
ironymaiden and her C,
markbourne, and
e_bourne at Crow. A lovely evening, and a nice quiet way to celebrate my halfway-to-90 birthday.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Doing some of the things I wish I'd done.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Practical, girlish, comfortable. A little more stylish.
32. What kept you sane?
My friends.
33. What political issue stirred you the most?
I think I may have politics fatigue. I've spent so much of the last seven years unhappy with Bush and his people that I just can't get passionate anymore. I'm tired.
34. Whom did you miss?
dochyel. Aunt Shirley. My brother.
35. Who was the best new person you met?
The best new people in my life are actually people I've met before but didn't get to know until this year, those being
gaelfarce and
bhagwanx.
36. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007.
Give yourself what you want when you can. You only go 'round once, and what's the point of waiting? And if you can share that thing, do. Also? Tell the people you love that you love them. Tell them often. More important: show them.
I love all youse guys. Really. I do.
Here's hoping for a happy, healthy, peaceful new year. Stay in one piece, everyone, and let's all meet here again next year. All of us.

Date: Wed, Jan. 2nd, 2008 12:04 am (UTC)Naw, you're off the hook. We met in November 2006 (at lunch, with Jay, afterwards we went to the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit). 2007 was our second encounter! Hopefully there will be more!
