In theory anyway...

I'm supposed to spend today in a car with
ladyjestocost and
bedii driving roundtrip to Portland for a Powell's pilgrimmage. I called yesterday to confirm when they'd be picking me up and I haven't heard back from them yet. So, honestly, I'm unsure what's happening with me today. If nothing else, I've got two bags of books to trade in for credit somewhere, and if it won't be Powell's it will most certainly be University Books.
ETA 8:25 AM: Just heard from my travel companions who will be here in about a half hour. Apparently the trip is on! Southward ho! If you need to get in touch, I'll have my cell phone with me.

Date: Mon, Dec. 21st, 2009 04:15 pm (UTC)(Let me take a moment to digress. One of the myriad differences between New York and Seattle is that in New York, one always confirms plans. One always makes sure everyone's on the same page. Time is precious; it's respectful of others to ensure a plan is a go and to then, well, go. Here, not so much, and sometimes it makes me crazy. I admit that I've probably gone a little native in this respect, and I don't like it in myself far more than I dislike it in others. But when I'm on the receiving end, I admit, it makes me crazy.... Thank you for your indulgence. ::sigh::)

Date: Mon, Dec. 21st, 2009 08:36 pm (UTC)I admit I don't get it. I don't think it's that folks here in the NW are inherently antisocial or anything. On the contrary: I've seen (and been a part of) many very warm and close-knit groups of friends. There is, however, a bit of resistance to meeting new people or making the first move (or formally responding to such) toward getting to know someone. I dunno if we're all just shy or fear rejection or think it's uncool to express overt interest or what, but it's kind of weird.

It's in an industrial area. Print out the instructions on how to get there around the current sewer work -- it's a bit challenging, but do-able.
The "sell us your books" feature on the website, where you enter the ISBN, is _not_ a good predictor of whether they'll buy the book at the stores/warehouse. The software algorithm ain't quite there yet.
