So I went to Goodwill this morning to buy a picture frame as part of a gift. I was crouching down to look at a frame, and suddenly this very hard, very heavy thing lands on my head. Turns out it was a heavy, metal, corner shelf case that had fallen out of a woman's shopping cart. Management was called. I got a chair and an ice pack. There happened to be an off-duty nurse in the store who felt my head for injury--no cuts but a lump coming up. I was a little uncertain on my feet but eventually was okay to drive home.

I'm home now, putting ice on the hurt spot (which still hurts). My pupils are stable and both the same size. My temp's okay so far, so I'm guessing there's no concussion, but I'm feeling a little odd in the tummy. Maybe it's just the stress and upset.

One way or another, the incident has thrown off all my plans for this morning, and I'm trying to catch up.

Not a happy girl.

Ow! Not fun! I'm glad you seem reasonably OK, and that you're taking it easy for a bit.

Ow crap. I'm so sorry.

The practical side of me has to ask: Did you get names and everything, in case medical followup generates $$?

Yep. The store manager had the presence of mind to collect all the information, and when I calmed down enough to be coherent, the perp woman and I exchanged information as well. I'm at the hotel now, with an ice pack on my head. All's well for the moment.

Well, my goose egg is still sore (really sore), but I'm functioning within normal parameters (except for, you know, my usual neuroses).

Oh no! Shopping is NOT supposed to be a danger! Other than to your wallet. I'm so sorry! Take it easy and make the kitties run the errands.

Sounds like a cursed object to me, jumping out of a shopping cart and whacking you like that! Hope you're feeling better by now.

Let Jack know so he can keep an eye on you - but you've covered all the "medic" bases I can think of - except - are you hydrating?

Jack's aware--and it turns out his sister's a nurse and has now been apprised of the situation so I've got eyes on me from each direction.

And now I'm thinking of some sitcom where a woman was concussed, and being nagged not to sleep. She holds up some marshmallows she was given for cocoa and says "If you didn't want me to sleep, then why did you give me these little pillows?"

Don't sleep on marshmallows, is what I'm saying. First of all, they're a lot less comfy than they seem. Second, they meld together and are harder to put on smores.

PS I'm glad it turned out to be minor.

Won't sleep on marshmallows, I promise, especially when smores are at risk!

You have my sympathies. A friend was helping me take a roll of carpet to the dump the other day. Needed to load the roll into an elevator. Friend didn't understand when I was telling him to come into the elevator with me to pull the roll in so it would clear the top of the elevator and slammed into the roll to drive it through the door.

Carpet rammed through the door and into my jaw so hard it slammed my mouth shut and drove the back of my head hard into the elevator wall. No cuts on me either, but boy howdy, were my chimes rung and rung loudly...

[livejournal.com profile] botgrrrl and I had just begun dating, when we went to buy groceries together. She still had a hatchback Colt at the time, and when we went to put the groceries into the back, after I had leaned in to put the last bag down, she slammed the hatch down onto the back of my head.

Luckily for me (and our relationship), it was a glancing blow, and I was more stunned that she had done such a thing than injured. I stood there, staring at her in shock, while she stood there, horrified and probably figuring I was about to kill her, when I did what was probably the best thing I could have done in terms of avoiding an argument or other recriminations.

I started laughing.

Heh. That's great. I wish my response to stress was laughter. My first reactions to this event were anger and then tears. ::sigh::

It was just the look of horror on her face, the "Oh my God what did I just do she's going to stomp off and never see me again" expression, and the absurdity of the whole situation that made me burst out laughing.

That and the fact that I'm half-Irish, so you can't actually hurt me by hitting me in the head. (No lie, I was kicked in the head by a Shetland pony when I was 7, and just had three stitches, no skull fracture or anything.)

Wow. Sounds as if you're okay, and that's good.

Meanwhile, a story can come from all of this, can't it? Perhaps you're knocked out by the whack and awaken in a strange land, a la Wizard of Oz?

Or the knock causes you to have new powers such as being able to speak Cat.

Or Goodwill is so shaken by the situation that they offer to do anything and arrange a new job created especially for you!

The possibilities are endless.
