Everyone I know is going somewhere cool over the next two weeks: WorldCon, ANA, GenCon. I am jealous as hell.

I splurged all of $20 to attend the Pacific Northwest Mouse Meet, a Disneyana show in Lynnwood the weekend of the 15th--a day trip--an hour of driving roundtrip, no hotel costs. While I expect it to be fun it won't be the same, I assure you.

I want to go to Japan with [livejournal.com profile] jackwilliambell so badly I can taste it, but the math says I shouldn't spend the money. Tomorrow morning, I'm going to look at the numbers one more time. Maybe if I examine them with a fever, they'll look different.

I've got the wanderlust bad. It always happens when I can least afford it. But it's been two years since my last big trip and the world is calling, one way or another.

::sigh::

You can spend the time not being jealous of me. The only place I'm going is down the rabbit hole as I try to finish the quarter and my SQL class.

Not everyone! We were just talking about how we'll never go anywhere ever again, but not for lack of desire. Japan sounds good. Hell, Portland sounds good.

Not everyone. My one vacation in the last 2.5 years was Rainforest Writers over a year ago. Since then, let's see...I've been to a funeral in Salem and to Wilsonville for computer parts and other than that I haven't left Portland at all. It effing sucks being too broke to travel. I'm desperate just for one damned day at the beach.

Hmmm...It is just possible that I may have an exciting safari in the supermarket.

We went somewhere cool last fall, but haven't traveled since. Probably won't for a while. So you are not alone.

I really, really hate the word "staycation," so I won't use it. I will, however, say that there are benefits to sticking around home and spending time improving your nest.

I just got back fromm a nice trip, but things are tight enough that I don't expect to make another for another year--unless you count late-night midweek drives to exciting, enticing, bewitching and erotic Yakima, flower of the mysterious East.

Within the next two weeks I am going ... to get older. sigh. But on the bright side, I think I get to eat as much cake as I want there. Right?

I know how you feel - painfully. *Sigh* - I was *really* hoping to do Montreal this year but no work for over 6 mos made that not real possible...

Erg.

Oh... I so know what you're going through. I live across the street from the airport and everytime I see a plane I want to be on it.

Hopefully you'll get to go somewhere soon!

I'm going to put on my "bad influence" hat: "shouldn't" spend the money sounds different than "don't have" the money, and how do those numbers look with the "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" filter on your glasses?

If it's impacting your ability to pay the mortgage or, say, eat in three months' time, well, okay, but...

Go to Japan

Dear one, go to Japan.
You can always make, or find, more money. This chance may not come again. Do this. Please.

I went to Paris in 2006 and to Las Vegas for my 60th birthday in 2007, but have not been anywhere, or taken anything like vacation, since. I am quite tired, and would love a break, but Other Things must take precedence. So not every one you know is going somewhere.

On the one hand, I'm envious of my friends who are at Pennsic or WorldCon.

On the other hand, the kids take off in nine days FOR nine days in Florida at my sister's (by her invitation); it will be their first time flying sans parents (he's 10, she's 8). M and I think we'll take advantage of the weekend that covers to go to Lancaster County, PA for a minivacation, so we do have something to look forward to.

Good luck finding, winning, extorting, or printing the money for Japan. It would be cool for you to go, and I would SO look forward to the travel reports.

*crosses fingers and presses thumbs for you*

Ha. It's hard to know how much one should live for the moment as opposed to how much one should be prudent for the future.

We're not planning on going anyplace (and, after two consecutive years of road trips to the Northwest, that's hard to deal with). We had planned on visiting [livejournal.com profile] jaylake during his confinement, but we're cheerfully dealing with the fact that the need for said confinement has been postponed (or, perhaps, even eliminated).

I promise not to go anywhere exciting. A nurse suggested I go to the First Hill hospital and check out the gift shop there, because -that- was exciting, and I didn't, so I'm seriously not going anywhere exciting. :-)

From the odd perspective of living in the exotic east, I am also jealous of those who get to go to Montreal for Worldcon!

If you can make it work out, you should definitely try to go to Japan- I haven't been there (yet- I say with eternal optimism) , but everyone I know who has gone has raved about it!

Good luck finding a path to wander to cure your wanderlust (for a little while, at least- since I think wanderlust is something with no permanent cure!)
