Died of leukemia at 76. Although she's known first and foremost as Nurse Chapel on the original Star Trek, I think I preferred her as the Great Galactic Jewish Mother, Lwaxana Troi on TNG--a feisty, sexy busy-body with, in the end, always a heart of gold.

Thanks for everything, Majel. You did good.

i liked her best as Number One.

i hope there are enough recordings of her in the can that she continues to be the voice of the computer in future Star Trek endeavors.

Indeed. All talking computers should have the voice of Majel Barrett.

Apparently she finished recording for the Abrams' Star Trek film.

Well, that sucks. When did 76 start to sound too young? She seemed like someone who should have been going strong into her 90s.

I suspect without that illness, she would have lived well into her 90's and been taking on the world the whole time.

What a grand lady ;>.

That is sad, Trek just won't be the same without her. Lwaxana Troi was one of my favorite characters ever!

Without her voice, the Star Trek computer just won't sound right. That's how I expect ALL computers to sound, and am disappointed when they don't. She was great and will be very much missed.

It's appropriate that she will be heard one last time on the new Star Trek film.

I wonder...do they have enough of her recorded that they might consider continuing to use her voice? Is there precedent for that (I'm sure that I'm missing something obvious).
