I say--cautiously--that summer has finally come to the Pacific Northwest. It was in the low-to-mid 80s yesterday, sunny and bright and quite beautiful. In my exciting way, I went grocery shopping, did some stuff online, then took advantage of the weather to clean my balcony. I had somewhere around 10 terra cotta pots full of weeds. Unsightly. So now the pots are emptied, the balcony is swept, and I spent the rest of the afternoon reading, with a bottle of ice water beside me and a kitty on my lap. I may yet go get a few pots of annuals to pretty up the space; we'll see.

Last night, [livejournal.com profile] ironymaiden, [livejournal.com profile] melkahb and I went to see "WALL*E" which, I'm here to tell you, is among the best films I've seen this year, and higher in that hierarchy. Beautiful to look at, clever, thoughtfully made, full of awareness of where it sits in cinematic history but not intrusively so, smart and, most unexpectedly of all, moving as hell. I say run, don't walk, to see this movie. And don't for a minute make the mistake that because it's an animated film that it's a kid's film; it's not. That's not to suggest you shouldn't bring your children; you should--they'll have a great time. But be aware that there are layers and layers here that they won't get until they're grown-ups, and that you'll enjoy and think about long after the lights come up. Advertisements have made it out to be some light, silly, pretty robot romance, but it's so much more. Go. Now.

Today's another bright, sunny day and it's only 8:30 AM--which suggests it's going to continue in the same manner. Spanky's already trying to be flat (though the best he can achieve is lump). Merlin's hydrating for the day ahead. Me, I have to go get ready for the day. I'll be meeting [livejournal.com profile] varina8 for brunch. After that, the day's a toss-up. Maybe, if I'm feeling ambitious, I'll take my laptop with me and, afterward, find somewhere to sit and write for a while. That would be novel. (Heh, get it, novel? ::sigh::) Or redesign my resume, as I've been promising myself the last week or two. We'll see.

ETA: My f-list is full of Doctor Who this morning, due to last night's broadcast of the first half of the season finale. There's so much "squeee!" and "OMGWTFBBQ!" that I may need to lay off reading that community for a while. I'll see the episode when I see the episode; all the exclamation points in the world won't make it happen any faster.

And here I was, sure that if enough exclamation points were used, it would speed up time!

That's what I get for spending time in Europe :)

(where, by the way, Wall-E hasn't opened and I am NOT happy about that one iota!)

Wanted.

Is so ridiculously good. It's like Fight Club meets Office Space. Brutally awesome with my favorite type of scathing dialogue.

It HURTS me to not comment. I writhe in pain. :-)

Actually, it officially hit 91 yesterday, which ties the record. Even more boggling, it didn't hit 91 until *6 pm,* and the temperature didn't begin to drop until 7:45.

[livejournal.com profile] botgrrrl and I walked down to the mailbox about 10 pm, thinking it would feel cooler than inside the apartment, as the living room/computer area gets the direct afternoon sun, but it wasn't cooler by much.

We spent the day on Mount Rainier, and I think it might actually have been cooler up there, though we only went to Longmire and walked the Trail of Shadows, and did a little sketching.

Re: Dr. Who -- I feel your pain. I normally wait to watch two-parters together, so as to save myself the anticipation week in between. But I'm feeling my resolve waver, considering how the Whovian lists and mutual friends are bibbling. Hmm.

My mom and I will probably take in Wall-E soon. She loved the preview, and we go to the movies a lot during hot summers. This is a hot summer. Well, it's not been *too* bad, but the heat waves have been brutal. The days between are livable.

Spanky: Lump -- hee hee! Sounds like my Bruce. :) They love the tile floors, and spend lots of time on them. Although only one is visible after that thunderstorm we just had...hmmm.

How did we switch weather? Here in New Hamster we've been having gray skies, cool temps, and regular thunderstorms (cue the trembling and howling of terrified cats) for the last week.

I don't look at Dr. Who lists. In checking a site for episode acquisition, I accidentally saw some comments from English viewers. There were some who didn't seem to realize that it wasn't the last episode of the season, which suggests a truly mind-boggling cliff-hanger, or something. There was also a lot of "best episode ever" burbling. I'm just waiting till Editrx is up to watching it with me...and then we'll have to wait till next Sunday before we can consider viewing what comes next. What we are not looking forward to is the 2009 schedule, which is supposed to involve three or four two-hour episodes. We've been spoiled. We wants our better-than-ever-before Doctor, yes we does, hrrm, wants it we does....
