Spanky (as seen in this new icon), as expected, turned into the Possessed Demon Cat from Hell at the vet. He did everything but spin his little head 360 degrees. It was so bad that he had to be sedated, and we still couldn't get all the information the doctor needed. We do know that he needs dental work and that he may have some kitty arthritis. The vet says that besides that and his extra weight, he seems pretty darn healthy. It's been hours since we got home and he's still dealing with the after-effects of the sedative; it's his turn to walk around the house like a drunken sailor (all due respect to [livejournal.com profile] neutronjockey). I had to confine him in my bedroom for a while so he wouldn't go tumbling down the stairs or bashing himself into walls. He's curled up and chillin' in the big easy chair downstairs right now, much calmer and feeling less threatened. I've been keeping an eye on him all day, though, just in case. (In case of what, I don't know, but it feels like the thing to do.)

In the meanwhile, I had my consultation with [livejournal.com profile] oldmangrumpus who, as a school project, did some research for me for a story I'm going to launch into tonight.

In the meanwhile, of the 33 stories I have to read by Thursday, I've read only 4 and need to kick into high gear tonight...which means there's a 50/50 chance of my not going out tonight. Grr. But there we are.

Perhaps I'll make myself some garlic chicken and pasta for dinner, and maybe have some strawberries for dessert. That would do nicely.

hopefully, demon-cat status indicates full recovery? Here's hoping.

Meanwhile, I've given over my saturday night frivolity to cosset the last lingering bits of my cough, and accomplish something useful (a client's read-through) so I raise my glass to you as we work on opposite sides of the continent...

O.o

Holy smokes. I'm glad to hear that he's healthy, albeit possessed. I am so dosing my two before they go to the vets in...2 months. *head desk*

Oh dear, poor Spanky. What is it that gets into good-natured cats when they get to the vet? Our two tabby guys went a couple of months ago when they got their noses into some cleaning fluid; they howled in the car as P brought them over, of course, but they quieted down in the waiting room. Then once in back, it was like someone had transplanted the personalities of wolverines into them. Each one, especially quiet gentlemanly Wakko, needed three people to contain him. Hissing, spitting, flattened ears... :::boggle::: These guys and their sister are normally the most even-tempered, mellow, social cats. I don't get it. (Dot behaves perfectly, thank goodness.)

On the other paw, old lady calico Wuss, departed two years now, would shred us to bits when we put her in the carrier. We warned the vet she might need special attention, they might need battle armour, etc. But as soon as we opened the carrier at the vet's, she was all sweetness and docility.

I need to get some work done, too. So far I've procrastinated by making a batch of ratatouille, refilling the bird feeders, restocking the indoor woodpile for the stove, and starting some cookies. Um, maybe I can vacuum the cats, too. :-)
