Irish Archeological WTF?

mevennen has posted about what may be the biggest WTF I've ever read about with regard to archeology. The short version is that the Irish government has decided to run a highway through (or very near; the coverage isn't completely clear on this) Tara, seat of the ancient Irish kings, while archeological discoveries are still being made there. There's been no coverage of this in America that I know of, maybe because the Irish government figures once Americans—especially Irish Americans—get our/their hands on the issue, they'll have practically an international incident to deal with. I find it just appalling (and I haven't been there yet! Wah!). mevennen posted links to a couple of protest web sites that are worth a look see. Go find out more.

Also, I read about this in the New York Times weeks ago. It's being covered in the American press, you just didn't see the article. ;)
