Camera research day

I spent the better part of today researching digital SLRs online (especially at www.dpreview.com, an absolutely amazing site). Based on a number of elements, I've narrowed down my choices to the Canon EOS XTi and the Nikon D80. Each has its advantages and is attractive in its own way. The big conundrum I've got right now is that I'm already invested in Canon with my current camera and have lenses I can use with it. If I get the Nikon, I'm buying into a whole new system (with the concomitant costs). So I'm weighing my choices.
I know, I know, we should all have such problems, right? ::grin::

And I have things to tell you about the whole photog biz.

Date: Sat, Jun. 9th, 2007 03:30 am (UTC)Today, I looked at the Canon XTi, Canon 30D, and the Nikon D80 in person. The Canon XTi felt cramped to me, too small even for my small hands. Based on all my reading, this is a common criticism of the model. The Canon 30D felt slightly too big, but based on specs and reviews, it's better at higher ISOs and in low light situations than the D80, which will be important for me in Africa. The D80 felt better in my hands, though. I'm still weighing, but now it's the 30D versus the D80. The price points being almost identical, it's almost a toss-up. So...I'm still thinking.
