I feel like I'm pushing through necessary material right now; not enjoying it so much as setting up the playing board for what's to come next. It feels mechanical, but I'm doing the work.
I also find myself wanting to write something short (be nice to start and finish something in a briefer period of time) but I'm short on ideas, and I'm beginning to feel like my short fiction is the same thing over and over again. Started reading Year's Best Fantasy 6 last night with the idea that I'd try to get into the habit of reading one short story a day; God knows I've got enough anthologies in the house to last me for a year at least if not more. This exercise comes under the heading of "How I Learn More About My Craft." I haven't been reading short fiction much lately, but it always helps me gear up writing same so . . . that's what I'm doing.
I must organize my time better. Yesterday was nearly perfect. I did my writing and my reading first thing. Today, things like groceries and eBay work got in the way, and then social obligations stepped in so my work was rushed. Must do better. Tomorrow I'll try to imitate yesterday.
