I say--cautiously--that summer has finally come to the Pacific Northwest. It was in the low-to-mid 80s yesterday, sunny and bright and quite beautiful. In my exciting way, I went grocery shopping, did some stuff online, then took advantage of the weather to clean my balcony. I had somewhere around 10 terra cotta pots full of weeds. Unsightly. So now the pots are emptied, the balcony is swept, and I spent the rest of the afternoon reading, with a bottle of ice water beside me and a kitty on my lap. I may yet go get a few pots of annuals to pretty up the space; we'll see.

Last night, [livejournal.com profile] ironymaiden, [livejournal.com profile] melkahb and I went to see "WALL*E" which, I'm here to tell you, is among the best films I've seen this year, and higher in that hierarchy. Beautiful to look at, clever, thoughtfully made, full of awareness of where it sits in cinematic history but not intrusively so, smart and, most unexpectedly of all, moving as hell. I say run, don't walk, to see this movie. And don't for a minute make the mistake that because it's an animated film that it's a kid's film; it's not. That's not to suggest you shouldn't bring your children; you should--they'll have a great time. But be aware that there are layers and layers here that they won't get until they're grown-ups, and that you'll enjoy and think about long after the lights come up. Advertisements have made it out to be some light, silly, pretty robot romance, but it's so much more. Go. Now.

Today's another bright, sunny day and it's only 8:30 AM--which suggests it's going to continue in the same manner. Spanky's already trying to be flat (though the best he can achieve is lump). Merlin's hydrating for the day ahead. Me, I have to go get ready for the day. I'll be meeting [livejournal.com profile] varina8 for brunch. After that, the day's a toss-up. Maybe, if I'm feeling ambitious, I'll take my laptop with me and, afterward, find somewhere to sit and write for a while. That would be novel. (Heh, get it, novel? ::sigh::) Or redesign my resume, as I've been promising myself the last week or two. We'll see.

ETA: My f-list is full of Doctor Who this morning, due to last night's broadcast of the first half of the season finale. There's so much "squeee!" and "OMGWTFBBQ!" that I may need to lay off reading that community for a while. I'll see the episode when I see the episode; all the exclamation points in the world won't make it happen any faster.
