Thursday lunchtime drive-by
Thu, Jan. 31st, 2008 12:36 pmSome links and quick thoughts and I'm off again:
CNET sent a set of questions on technology issues to all the candidates running for nomination. Not all of the candidates responded, but those who did offered some illuminating responses. Check out CNET's Technology Voters Guide here.
Columbia: The anniversary is tomorrow. Here's a slideshow in tribute, lest we forget.
Warner Brothers ponders how to proceed with The Dark Knight in the wake of Heath Ledger's death. Is it tasteless to create an action figure based on someone who's so recently so tragically died?
Anna Quindlen addresses the elephant in the room in the current political race: What's too old to run for president? Should I have to put up with one of the three Republican candidates, I'd find McCain the least distasteful, but Quindlen's got a point.
I will now be required to tote a passport if I visit KA, KT or
erdnase2000 in British Columbia. It won't stop me, but it may make some border guards wonder if I've had my bran.
Ghost Hunters International: I'm really not a fan of Ghost Hunters International, hard as I've tried. It feels like Ghost Hunters Lite. While Andy has grown on me, Robb seems sober and sensible and utterly boring. Donna's got no personality. I don't care about Shannon. Brian seems at turns ridiculous and then far too restrained. Barry had so much potential but is just a disappointment. It just all feels very flat to me. Andy's the only bright spot, and he's not enough to make me care. It's freakin' Europe! How do you make the haunted places of Europe boring? It's an accomplishment, I gotta say. Scary that I find Most Haunted more compelling. I wants my Grant and Jayson back!
Theater: Saw The Retreat from Moscow by William Nicholson (about the break up of a long marriage) at ArtsWest last Friday night with
ironymaiden. The material was far better than the actors, thoughas Miss Maiden pointed outwe have no idea what choices the director made, so it's unclear what balances were being struck. I was left 60% pleased, 40% grumbly. I want to see the play with better performances and a different director. Seems like the playwright who also gave us Shadowlands deserves better treatment (though my cranky dissatisfaction with Gladiatoron which more another timeand my irritation with First Knight make me wonder).
Writing: I've got a little over 2K words written on the story for the workshop done. I've been reading and researching and picking my (blessedly patient) consultant's brain but, despite all this, I still feel overwhelmed by what I've chosen to do. My inner editor is fighting hard to make me feel inadequate to the task. I'm thinking of resorting to drink.
I should get back to work.
