scarlettina: (Blood love and rhetoric)
[livejournal.com profile] garyomaha forwarded me a link to a New York Times piece that interviews Stephen Sondheim about editing Sweeney Todd for adaptation to the screen. There's some good, thoughtful commentary in here. It talks a bit about the songs that were cut and why. Some of the numbers I'm not sorry to see go ("Parlor Songs," especially--I never liked it), but it still feels like sacrilege that "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd" isn't included, or Judge Turpin's "Joanna," which I was really looking forward to seeing Alan Rickman perform. Sondheim also seems pretty sanguine (pardon the use of that word) about Depp and Bonham Carter playing his principles.

I'm still skeptical. We Shall See.

I had a busy, lovely weekend. Saw ACT's wonderful production of "A Christmas Carol" with [livejournal.com profile] bedii and [livejournal.com profile] ladyjestocost, unaware that said play is among the lady's favorites. We all enjoyed ourselves--it's an excellent production and much recommended. [livejournal.com profile] tbclone47's not-a-housewarming/birthday/holiday soiree that evening was just what I needed, and the company was quite fine. I hug them all, every one. [livejournal.com profile] tbclone47's new place is beautiful and he's quite the decorator; the place looks really terrific. And of course, he himself is a delight. During said soiree, [livejournal.com profile] mistymarshall observed that I haven't been posting much lately so I figured I ought to post tonight.

Brunch yesterday with [livejournal.com profile] oldmangrumpus at the Blue Onion Cafe was tasty indeed. Our excursion to Radio Shack proved the most productive thing I did the whole weekend. I purchased a new power adapter for my PDA and discovered that the PDA isn't dead at all! I had the brains to back it up before I went to Africa, so I've lost almost no data. Can't wait to get the thing reloaded again. I need my second brain!

I have half a window to finish painting and the upstairs room will be complete, paint-wise. OMG, tomorrow night is the night, come hell or high water!

I want to write a bit about why I haven't been writing lately--fiction or journaling--but it's too late and I'm too vastly tired to do so and be at all coherent. Perhaps tomorrow evening.

Saw "The Golden Compass" tonight with BC. It's a beautiful-looking film, but the script is not well constructed so that it felt disjointed to me. Most frustrating was that I could see the film it might have been and, sadly, wasn't. I enjoyed it well enough. It's good enough for what it is, but it could have been great.

And now, I'm for bed.
