A cheeseburger, a pig and thou
Thu, Dec. 30th, 2004 09:42 pmHad dinner with B tonight, whom I don't always get to spend very much time with. A gifted carpenter (maker of my fine and distinctive business card case), a pretty darn good writer (who doesn't write nearly enough) and a heckuva guy, he picked me up tonight and whisked me off to a pleasant, casual dinner at Red Robin (local burger and ice cream chain). B's always fun to spend time with; he's got a sense of humor just vexacious enough to keep me always on my toes.
Tonight we exchanged holiday gifts. I gave him The Onion's page-a-day calendar, as he's a major fan. And B ... B gifted me with the interesting and peculiar. Delivered in a Noreascon 4 totebag was a piggy bank. A plastic piggy bank. A plastic piggy in a Santa suit. With the words "Old Navy" printed across his little plastic butt. Screw his nose off and out comes the change. Inside the Santa piggy bank was a collection of foreign coins, older US coins, some transit tokens and a couple of smashies. I was delighted by the coins; many will be fine additions to my much neglected collection. I'm still sort of speechless about the Santa piggy, though.
B kept chuckling over how mystified I was by the piggy bank. Finally I said to him, "You did this just to see the look on my face, didn't you?"
His response, with a big grin: "Got it in one."
I love my friends.
