Not entirely self-revelatory stuff follows:

1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
Attended a week-long writing workshop.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I made a point of not making resolutions last new year. I'm going to make a resolution to make no resolutions this year either. I make set some goals for myself, but that's about it.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope. Some casual friends did, but we've only recently gotten back in touch.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, and thank goodness.

5. What countries did you visit?
Canada. Twice.

6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
More focus. A little more cash. A little less debt.

7. What date from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
My birthday. It was a perfect, perfect day.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Hard to say. I don't think I had any especially big achievements. Going to the workshop was one. Completing my acting class and doing the showcase was another. Getting some stories in the mail after many a year of not doing so was a third. Can't really rank 'em.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not being more disciplined about any number of things. (Sufficiently vague?)

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Pretty healthy this year except for a hideous cold in November.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My psychedelic pink coat: stylish, memorable and it looks just great. I adore it.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Our folks in uniform.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Our fearless leader, George W. Bush.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Travel and paying off debt.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Writing and, well, let's be honest, men. And going to the theater.

16. What song will always remind you of 2004?
"Drops of Jupiter" by Train

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? About the same.
ii. thinner or fatter? About the same.
iii. richer or poorer? Poorer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Watched my heart more carefully.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procrastinated.

20. How will you be spending New Year's?
With friends.

22. Did you fall in love in 2004?
Yup.

23. How many one-night stands?
One.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
The West Wing

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate's an awfully strong word and honestly, with the exception perhaps of Our Fearless Leader, I don't really think I could apply it to anyone in my life.

26. What was the best book you read?
Read too many. Can't pick just one.

27. What was your greatest musical (re)discovery?
Still enjoying Pete Yorn, but Dave Matthews continues to be a god.

28. What did you want and get?
A really good birthday.

29. What did you want and not get?
A new president.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Hard to say. Saw too many and have certainly forgotten any number of them.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I had a perfectly wonderful brunch with friends in the morning and a perfectly wonderful dinner with other friends in the evening. You'll find my LJ entry on the events here. It's one of my fondest memories of the year.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A new president.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?
I embraced my inner clothes horse. If I'm going to be the weight that I am, I'm going to look good, damn it!

34. What kept you sane?
Music.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Hm. Johnny Depp. Antonio Banderas (who's always on the short list).

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Anything connected to our current administration: their policies, and the possibility of getting them out of office.

37. Who did you miss?
Usually when I miss someone I call or write them, so the missing doesn't go on for very long. I missed my parents ... way more, I suspect, than is healthy. But I also missed Flatbush, my beloved poose, who died a year ago May. You have a cat for 16 years, I guess he sticks with you.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Tie: [livejournal.com profile] ironymaiden and [livejournal.com profile] varina8. Oh! And Miss A from Canada.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004:
Sometimes when you think you're done with something, you're only really just beginning.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Others have quoted it, but it applies anyway:
"How long 'til my soul gets it right?"—Indigo Girls
