It's that time of year when Jews across the nation gather in Chinese restaurants and movie theaters for proper celebration of the season. Though usual tradition has it that these events take place on one day—Christmas eve—I, being a non-conformist, chose to observe these rituals each on their own day.

Yesterday, after much house cleaning and some writing, I was off to see "Finding Neverland," a lovely, fictionalized version of J.M. Barrie's journey toward writing "Peter Pan." It's a charming film and beautiful to look at; Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet give sweet and understated performances. In short, it's well worth seeing and I highly recommend it.

Today I met [livejournal.com profile] dlevine and [livejournal.com profile] kateyule for dim sum at Sun Ya in the International District. They are, as ever, excellent company. After much brunchy goodness at Sun Ya, we tromped over to University Village to assuage Kate's chocolate cravings at Fran's and to just stroll around a bit. The crowds were pretty light given that it's Christmas eve, and it was rather pleasant to enjoy the chilly air as we chatted away.

This evening I'll be party hopping from [livejournal.com profile] robespierette's place to the home of [livejournal.com profile] the_monkey_king and [livejournal.com profile] shellyinseattle and I look forward to seeing everyone.

Don't forget to track Santa along with NORAD tonight.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate. I hope your holiday is filled with light!

Although not religious, I'll have you know that our Christmas is entirely traditional tomorrow. People are coming over to find: zero decorations, no gifts, a ham, and then exploration of a haunted house (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/prod/betrayalhouse).

It's everything I remember from childhood!

Hey, ghost stories on Christmas eve are, at least, a British tradition, which is why Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" is a ghost story first and foremost. Your tradition sounds pretty traditional to me! Enjoy!

Great seeing you tonight, by the way. Merry happy!

That's funny -- "Finding Neverland" was my Jewish Christmas movie too!

Unfortunately, I saw it with a pair of friends who brought along their little girl (she's 9) and the death at the end was too much for her. Apparently they'd seen Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet in the credits, knew it dealt with Peter Pan, and didn't bother to look further.

Yep. There were several kids in the audience when I went to see the film, and all I kept thinking was, "Didn't you bother to read reviews and find out about this before you brought your kids?" ::headshake::
