Random thoughts on a foggy day off
Thu, Dec. 23rd, 2004 12:06 pmToday, by Seinfeldian reckoning, is Festivus. So popular is this bogus holiday that it has spawned myriad websites, including this one (for the single one of you out there who hasn't heard of it yet), and has also garnered an entry on Wikipedia. I'm hugely entertained that a gag on a popular TV show has demonstrated such longevity and appeal. Perhaps this, of course, is a testiment to Seinfeld's own longevity and appeal. It's amusing and ... mildly alarming. ::grin::
Tried to sleep in today. Spanky saw an end to that by waking me in a rather rude fashion at about my usual weekday time. I went back to bed an hour later and slept until 11. It was bliss.
I have an idea I want to do more cleaning around here today. I also want to go to the movies, preferably a matinee to keep things economical. Need to hit the dry cleaners. I also must brave University Village to pick up pictures and a last holiday gift or two. My sudden unexpected aversion to spending money (holiday shopping exhaustion perhaps, which has kept me even from purchasing the RotK DVD!) makes these tasks an exercise in willpower.
And in the mail I received a package from Mr. and Mrs.
mbourne who sent me an absolutely beautiful silk scarf from the British Museum: black with a gray border and beautiful Japanese illustrations of kitties all over it. I love it and will wear it until it falls apart.
Be sure to stop by Google. All week long they've been running polar bears in their logo and it's been just sweet.

Date: Thu, Dec. 23rd, 2004 01:49 pm (UTC)Substitute "depressing" for "alarming," and you've summed up my feelings. That such an unfunny show devoted to some of the most unpleasant and uninteresting humans on television has had such a broad-ranging influence is right up there with Bush's reelection in Why The Human Species Befuddles The Holy Crap Out Of Me. *wry grin*

Date: Thu, Dec. 23rd, 2004 04:30 pm (UTC)We saw it and simultaneously turned to each other and nodded, "Janna!" Very pleased that you like it. And sorry we missed your phone call last night. We caught your message this morning and it was a delightful day-starter.
...including this one (for the single one of you out there who hasn't heard of it yet)
As of this morning, before checking the news, that single one would have been me. You know, I've never seen a single episode of Seinfeld. However, a holiday "for the rest of us" suits me fine. I'll skip the grievances-airing and the wrestling, though.
Are there Jell-O shots in festive colors?

I think this needs to be the new Festivus tradition.
