Vancouver: The short version and the repercussions
Mon, Dec. 6th, 2004 06:39 pmI did go to Vancouver.
I did enjoy myself for the most part.
I submitted nothing for critique but cheerfully critted for others and enjoyed what I read.
I got lots of quality time with K.
I had some ... interesting time with M.
I got some fabulous tools from K for a project I'm working on.
And I very probably planted the sprouts of the end of the friendship with M.
I'm curiously detached from this last development. I find myself not terribly broken up about it when I think about it carefully. I will miss the company and the colorful stories, but in a discussion with someone tonight about the general nature of the dispute and the relationship, I found myself saying something like, "If I have to extend my comfort zones so far that they're not comfortable anymore, maybe it's just as well that we've come to this pass." And that, I realized, was pretty key. Lessons learned, my friends.
