A suggestion: when I get a cold, I use (sparingly) Afrin nasal decongestant at bedtime. Only at bedtime. During the day, I take Sudafed. I find that this keeps me breathing pretty clearly, and doesn't result in the overuse of the nasal spray that can cause rebound congestion.
Oh, I was on Nyquil last night, as I am any night when I have a cold. Nyquil is my friend. I should have slept straight through without a whimper. The problem last night was that the air in here was very dry, something I intend to fix by pulling out my vaporizer tonight. Well, it was that and the prospect of too effin' much to do this week, which has been the problem for the last two weeks.
I do nasal spray & Nyquil at night, and then just an oral decongestant during the day. The nasal spray works much better than anything oral, but the trick is not to overuse it. Once a day is just enough.
Urgh. (cough cough) Empathies... Last night I slept with a cough drop dissolving in my mouth.
My biggest problem is that when I hit the hay with a cold, I'm too tired and cranky to remember what worked for me last time or even what medicine we've got in the house. I tend to forget that I've got a humidifier in the basement, and I completely space the throat spray unless it's sitting there by the bed in plain sight.
(Seriously, I should make myself a Cold Remedy To-Do List while I'm lucid enough to think.)
Well, when I get extra sick with too much in my lungs, I try sleeping with so many pillows that I'm at about a 60 degree angle to better drain my lungs. Historically, this was popular too in the days of TB, coal fires etc. It was thought lying down was unhealthy because so many people had lung problems.
Also, frequent hot showers so the steam cleans things up inside helped, too.
For drugs, I've found Theraflu plus menthol eucalyptus cough drops works pretty well for me though the "tea" tastes somewhat foul.
If this doesn't clear up I can bring some of the herbal cold tea we've got from Germany by. I believe a pharmacist in Germany put the blend together. Let me know.
