We had a meteor come down this morning in the Seattle area. As Vonda McIntyre said, "Lightningflashen and crashenboomen." Read all about it here, with videos and everything.

Because science pleases me, this has cheered me up in a ridiculous way—sense of wonder will do that to a girl—and I'm feeling better now.

Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day takes us to Easter Island above which the planets recently aligned. It's a stellar (pardon the pun) shot, and when you roll your cursor over the picture, you'll see the daytime view. Kudos to APoD for their never-ending series of spectacular views of the cosmos. It's one of the true joys of the Web.
