For the photographers out there

NPR ran a story this morning about Jini Dellaccio, a woman who started as a fashion photographer and ended up changing music photography forever. Her pictures are just wonderful, especially if you're interested not only in photography, but portraiture and the history of rock 'n' roll. She shot early, iconic pictures of Neil Young, The Who, The Wailers--many others. You should go look at some of her pictures. They're really remarkable.

Five things (plus one): Dark Friday morning edition

1. Work has eaten my life. It's hard to get what you want....

2. I'm seeing Elton John and Billy Joel tomorrow night at Key Arena with tbclone47, without whom it would not have been possible. I'm so grateful to him I can't even express it. I've been wanting to see these two together on stage since the first Face-to-Face tour decades ago.

3. Turned in two book reviews to Kobold Quarterly for the spring issue. Seems like the editor (that would be the_monkey_king) liked 'em. I reviewed Finch by Jeff VenderMeer and Black Blade Blues by bravado111. Safe to say I recommended them both, but you'll have to pick up the magazine to see what I actually said.

4. For those who have been asking, jackwilliambell is slowly recuperating. He's back to work but, based on what I'm hearing over the phone, still dealing with a nasty, nasty cough. Will see him this evening.

5. I'm up before sunrise...again. I mean, it's dark outside. What am I thinking?

Plus one: varina8 hosted me last night for a lovely pesto pasta dinner. After dinner and much fine conversation, we played a killer game of Scrabble. Despite my taking a short detour through Czechoslovakia, I emerged victorious over my most worthy opponent. She lost with grace, serving a brownie a la mode as my prize and her consolation. Not bad, not bad at all. ::grin::
