This weekend
Sat, Oct. 31st, 2009 04:18 pmI've pretty much been living on the internet this weekend, what with Imaginary WFC 2009 in full swing. I'm embarrassed to say how much I've been enjoying working up the material for this thing, between the tweets, the responses and, yes, the swag. It has been suggested that I collect all the material at the end of it all--all posts, all responses--and put together a 'zine. Me, I keep thinking of doing a book on Blurb or Lulu, or maybe a PDF version. One way or another, this has been so much work (fun), I feel like I need some way to preserve it all.
In the meanwhile, last night I had a small group at my place to watch the animated "Tell Tale Heart," "Terror at 30,000 Feet" and to listen to LA Theatre Works presentation of "War of the Worlds" starring Leonard Nimoy, Brent Spiner, Gates McFadden, Armin Shimmerman and Wil Wheaton, directed by John Delancie. It's a terrific production.
This morning,
jackwilliambell and I walked into Fremont for breakfast. We ran into
hank while we were there, in company of the MacGregors. We stopped at Dusty Strings, where Jack gifted me with new strings for my guitar, plus a digital tuner and a winder. Upon leaving the shop, we ran into three Halloween streakers, running through the neighborhood hooting gleefully in nothing but Jack-o-Lantern masks. I commented that they were surely offering treats, but the treats were suffering shrinkage due to the temperature.
Upon arriving home, we discovered a package left at my door. It was from
kateyule, filled with swag from the real World Fantasy Convention with a note from "HP & Edgar." I could not be more grateful for such generous friends--and the con tote included is sturdy enough to be an overnight bag. Wonderful!
I also want to note an exchange I shared with Mr Bell. He was trying to school me in how to produce a proper 'zine version of IWFC2009, when I turned, dug into my closet and pulled out some of the 'zines I wrote for lo these many years ago. He raised his eyebrows and smiled indulgently. Said I, "Whaddaya think I am, a pro slumming with the fanboys? I've got legitimate fan cred!"
Here in Seattle, it's Trolloween, the 20th anniversary of the neighborhood's favorite toll taker. Jack feels compelled to go, and so I shall join him for the festivities. In the ten years I've lived in my condo, I've never attended this event, which happens only a ten minute walk from my front door.
I shall make my annual Halloween post a little later. New material is sparse this year, but I'll find something to share.
