The right tool for the task

When I started the room switcheroo almost two years ago, one of my goals was to created a space dedicated to crafts: creating jewelry, doing calligraphy, collages, updating my photo albums and so on. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted and where I wanted to put it, but time, money and the right fit just weren't coinciding.

Well, one trip to Goodwill and only $15.00 later, I have achieved success! The desk is awesome: it includes two storage compartments (one beneath the main surface; the other just above) and a groove perfectly situated between the two for pencils and pens. I'm just thrilled, and feel like I've proven my shopping fu with this one acquisition. Bonus: It matches the kitchen chair I'll be using with it. Ah, my geeky little heart.

The table goes into immediate use, despite my desire to remove the basketball sticker on its surface. I figure that I'll eventually either remove it or cover it with a sticker more to my liking. The last piece of creating this crafting spot is getting another book case to sit back to back with the one I have there now. The one I have already will be turned to face away from the table; the new one will face the table and will be dedicated to storing craft books and, more importantly, the supplies I use most regularly.

Yay!

The job hunt continues...

If only cuddling skills counted...or maybe it's stripes I lack.

Five Things Make a Post: Late Friday Edition

1) Had a lovely afternoon and evening today with shellyinseattle (who's no longer in Seattle, come to think of it) and poor, sick the_monkey_king. After dinner, Shelly and I attended her calligraphy workshop group. We did some color theory work using guache, a sort of paint I've never used before. It was fun getting my hands dirty with this exercise, and has me all excited again about the liquid arts. Oy, another art. Just what I need.

2) I'm taking immense joy in the new table. It's actually pretty ridiculous how happy it's making me. On the other hand, I've wanted a dedicated art space, literally, for years, so perhaps the joy is not without explanation.

3) If Texas wants to secede from the Union, I'd be happy to let it go freely. Really. Even Austin.

4) If you haven't yet heard about--or heard--the YouTube Symphony Orchestra, I'm here to tell you: It's world class. Really. Go see for yourself. Now, if Susan Boyle were to sing with them, the internets might explode. Someone go get Simon on the phone!

5) I expect to be mostly offline this weekend, off on a jaunt with varina8. You know where the liquor and chocolate are. Spanky will welcome pets and spoiling if you're so inclined. Everybody play nice. See you on the flip side....
