Thu, Oct. 2nd, 2008 12:25 pmMy flist is sharing some interesting and thought-provoking stuff today. Here are links to two of the items that made me sit up and take notice:
aprivatefox posts his thoughts on what it means to be Jewish in the modern world. It's a carefully considered and well articulated analysis by someone who knows what he's talking about. Well worth the read.
From
jaylake, here's an article on The 'Secret Jews' of San Luis Valley, a Smithsonian article.
Under the heading of "Seattle is an Awesome Place to Live," I give you reason 147: Seattle Children's Theater has adapted "Night of the Living Dead" for a children's audience and is performing it live through November 1. There's a show I have to see.
Under the heading of "What I've Been Reading," I've abandoned "The True Story of the Bilderberg Group" by Daniel Estulin. While it's certainly provocative, the quotient of conspiracy-induced theory and paranoia has over-reached the quotient of actual reportage just far enough that I can't read it with any sort of focus anymore. Even for its entertainment value, I find it all A Bit Too Much. That being the case, I've moved on to "The Rabbi's Cat" by Joann Sfar, a graphic novel recommended to me by last week's houseguest which has thus far proved to be completely delightful, and "Anansi Boys" by Neil Gaiman. Yeah, I'm behind. I know.
ETA: Ooh, and before I forget: Safeway has finally gotten Macintosh apples! They're my favorite, and they make this time of the year especially sweet for me. Yay!
