Morning drive-by
Fri, Jan. 4th, 2008 08:15 amObama won the Democratic Iowa caucuses, Edwards came in second, and Clinton third. I've always admired Hillary Rodham Clinton; it feels more instinctive than it is informed, I admit. But it's also that she's proven herself to be a hard worker in the Senate, intelligent, practical and purposeful. She's a little more conservative than I would prefer, though, and she's operating under the disadvantage of her name. I'm watching her carefully. I respect Obama; I'm concerned about experience there, but I need to look into him and positions more. (Interestingly, all the Kenyans I met knew a great deal about him; he's got an interesting profile internationally.) I'd like to see Edwards find a way to kick into high gear and really start inspiring people. The folksy Southern thing doesn't impress me, but his message and his positions have the power to do so, if he can find a way to deliver them more effectively amidst the clamor of Clinton and Obama.
I've decided not to attend Lunacon after some pretty significant planning. Financially, attending is just making less and less sense. All things considered, last year would have been the year to go. One way or another, I get only one trip east this year, and I've decided to reserve it for another event instead. I'll miss seeing everyone there. God, I can't even say I know I'll see them all later this year. The experience of 2007 proved that to be untrue. The best I can say is that I hope I'll see everyone during the other trip. I look forward to it.
I've planned a low-budget weekend out of town for myself, starting tonight. Don't know if I'll be online or not. Mainly, I want writing time, quiet time, walking time, thinking time. You'd think I'd had enough of it over the holidays when I was sick, but a lot of that mental energy was spent on considering household organization. I need to get out of this atmosphere a little bit.
Have a good weekend, everyone. I'll check in if the occasion arises.
