Norwescon, Day 1

Short day as convention days go. Got to the hotel about 4 PM and discovered the parking situation may be the worst it's ever been at the SeaTac Doubletree, one of the reasons I'm up so early this morning and will be heading out shortly.

Ran into [livejournal.com profile] jaylake almost immediately, in whose company I went to the Green Room for check in. I proceeded to lose my program participant packet almost immediately. I've got my badge, but my name plate has vanished. I may create a new one for myself before I leave the house this AM. Had drinks in the bar with [livejournal.com profile] jaylake, [livejournal.com profile] casacarona, [livejournal.com profile] mikigarrison, [livejournal.com profile] jackwilliambell and Mike Moscoe, then some quiet talk time. At 7, I did the first of my critiques for the Fairwood Writers Workshop on possibly the best manuscript I've received in the years I've been doing this thing. This writer had the goods; I suspect we'll see her in print very soon.

Post-workshop, I went to see [livejournal.com profile] lisamantchev, [livejournal.com profile] bjcooper and Kat Richardson hold forth on writing a novel in a year, then it was off to the artist's reception and the small press party. The SPP featured, among other things, a chocolate fountain in the bathroom; a reunion with Bart Ons who's been out of circulation for a while on, as he put it, a government vacation in dangerous parts; catch-up with Kat; and the presentation of incriminating evidence with regard to property damage perpetrated by writer guys in Hawaiian shirts and women in black. I was neither (for once). See [livejournal.com profile] tbclone47 for evidence admissible in a court of law.

Left the festivities close to midnight. Gotta say, there's something refreshing about sleeping in one's own bed during a convention.

I've got an 11 AM panel today and tentative lunch plans with [livejournal.com profile] ironymaiden, though we need to confirm. Don't know if I'll spend the full day at the con today. Tomorrow promises to be a long day, what with my first panel at 9 AM and the Talebones event at 8 PM, and I have this idea that I'd like to get something done today other than conventioneering. (Go ahead, laugh. A girl can hope.)

See y'all on the flip side.
