Books, the purge, and the reorganization project
Fri, Feb. 9th, 2007 10:25 pmSpent a good portion of this evening reorganizing my bookcases so there would be at least half a shelf upon which to set my telephone and my DSL modem. It's dusty work, given how I keep house, and I'm beginning to think that Merlin's sneeziness is in fact not a result of the daffodils (gone three days now) but of my kicking up dust while I clean and reorganize the house. I've selected more books to take to the used book store, but this exercise always becomes a walk down memory lane, and it takes some genuine self-discipline not to get completely distracted from the task at hand. Also, I've now made space for the upcoming Rowling and Martin books. Planning ahead is key. That being the case, I suppose I ought to make room for the next Lynch, too. Hm.
Unfortunately, what I've realized is that I have to empty the bookcase I just reorganized to move it so I can get to the electrical outlet behind it. ::sigh::
The one quandary I am left with is that I've removed all my Sandman hardcovers and paperbacks from the bookcase and now I have to figure out where else they should go. I know, I know, another bookcase or two in this house wouldn't be a bad thing. The time is coming, I'm fairly sure.
The time is coming because one of my current projects (the reason for the purge that I've mentioned so much lately), albeit a slow-moving one, is to eventually move my bedroom into the room that is currently my "office," and to turn the room that is currently my bedroom into a more public space that will include room for me to do creative projects, keep more books, and give the kitties a little more running room. This project will also include painting some walls and maybe even (*gasp!*) getting some curtains like a grown-up. But it's all going to take time. I'm hoping to get most of these changes completed by June so that I can enjoy my new bedroom (and its easier-to-control temperature) for the summer.

ETA: Found! Long lost photos of my beloved Flatbush (long since gone the way of all kitties), forgotten photos of
yvonnenavarro and TJ from 1999, a stack of Arabic receipts from my trip to Egypt (1997), bound galleys of "Firebird" by Kathy Tyers, a couple of turn-of-the-century (that's the 20th-21st century) commemorative issues of Time magazine. Wow. It's like I'm a branch office of the Smithsonian or something.
