RadCon rundown
Tue, Feb. 21st, 2006 07:57 amAlthough my desire was to do a big, detailed con report, the reality is that I don't have the patience write one. Here's the con report in a medium-sized nutshell (and yeah, for me, this is a medium-sized nutshell):

bravado111 who makes an excellent travelling companion. The trip was, I admit, much more pleasant as a passenger, something I get to be very rarely. Best view of the trip: Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams rising on the horizon at the same time, about 25-30 degrees apart, against a clear blue sky. Breathtaking.
On the way out, we met other members of our writers group at the Valley Cafe in Ellensburg for lunch; recommended highly.
As previously mentioned, I roomed withmadrobins and would do so again in a heartbeat.
Programming was, for the most part, really pretty good, though the convention had trouble keeping the programming straight. Their guest packet information differed with the printed schedules. My practice was to follow the printed programs since that's what attendees would be following. For the most part, it worked.
Finished a new poem, "Batboy comes to dinner," in time for the TaleBones Live party. It seemed to be pretty well received, as were the other pieces I read. Party was fun; heard some great writing.
The small press party seemed to be the pro shindig of the weekend. I certainly enjoyed it for as long as I stayed, though apparently I didn't stay late enough. Word is that I missed quite the sing-along somewhere in the middle of the night.
I hardly missed any other party though, not because I attended them all, but rather because some genius made Wing 2 of the hotel the party wing—you know, the wing between Wings 1 and 3. This way, no one missed a single sound all night long, no matter which wing you stayed in. If nothing else, I have to give this to the attendees of RadCon: they take their partying very seriously. ::sigh::
I was relatively restrained in the dealers room, purchasing only one book. The art show was a slightly different matter. I won the bid on a beautiful beaded rope necklace and a sweet, small print of a dragon with butterfly wings by Theresa Mather. I also aided and abbetted Frank Wu in selling at least one of his paintings, and watched as he performed a rather convincing interpretation of The Artist's Death as a Provocation for Art Pricing and Appreciation. Very impressive.
Concluded the weekend atbravado111's home, having a tasty pasta dinner with his whole family. The kitties seemed pleased to see me when I returned to my place.
All in all, it was a nice way, in the end, to spend three days.
