First, second and third but, mostly, it's really hot
Sat, May. 28th, 2005 08:36 amFirst: It was really hot yesterday. As I live in what is essentially my building's attic, I felt the heat particularly when I came home; I couldn't escape it, even after sunset. I therefore spent most of the evening sitting on my balcony reading the second trade paperback collection of "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" on loan from
ironymaiden. What with the Wellsian Martians and what I think (though I could be wrong) were references to John Carter of Mars (stuff I have yet to readbad me), I was thoroughly delighted. Haven't quite finished that volume yet because as sunset finally occured, I decided....
Second: ...to watch "Being John Malkovich, which I'd never seen before. I picked it up on DVD a couple of weeks ago at the SLGC fundraiser garage sale precisely because I hadn't seen it. It's definitely different. Brilliant. Funny. Darker than I expected it to be. I'm still thinking about it. I don't know if I'll ever be able to be articulate about it.
Third: It's going to be really hot today. Out comes my favorite hippy-dippy sundress! Yay! Part of me still very much wants to go to FolkLife. Part of me wants to find a beach to settle down upon and an ocean to swim in. Sadly, any ocean beach is so far away from here that it would take most of the morning hours just to get there. Water surrounds Seattle, but there are no beaches of the kind I grew up near to lie upon. ::sigh::
Third-and-a-half: How do I keep my kitties cool in this heat? I have no air conditioner and my Venetian blinds do only a fair job of keeping the sun out. Poor furry guys. Flatbush, who may have been one of the smartest cats ever, used to sleep in the bathroom sink or in the bathtub on hot days, enjoying the porcelain coolness. His younger, denser brothers, however, haven't quite figured out that trick yet.
