It's Wednesday morning...
Wed, Mar. 30th, 2005 07:58 am... and good God, where's the week going? Well, Monday was about job hunting, financial panic attacks, eBay business and ... boy, I barely remember now. Yesterday was about trying to roll on the story revisions for the workshop. It also included a fine (and, I hope for him) cathartic lunch with
shadowdaddy, an unusual-for-Seattle thunder-and-lightning storm, a nap that provoked truly bizarre dreams (dogs, miniature horses and a walk in a volcanic park much like a moonscape--of course, the gift shop had penny-smashing machines), and a really excellent chorus rehearsal.
I've a number of things I've been wanting to write about here, essays about my experience of gender and identity in the wake of the chorus retreat, about writing the kind of fiction one does not perceive to be one's strength, and about the white-collar contracting culture that afflicts the Seattle region, but I've had little concentration for any of it. I've also been putting off these essays because I want to put my energy into finishing the aforementioned story revisions.
With regard to the story, mostly what I've been doing is tapping out revisions in an excruciatingly slow fashion and being intimidated by the whole affair. Although I know intellectually that the following isn't true, emotionally I feel as though the pressure is on because the revision is part of an audition process; it's making me a little crazy. My getting into the workshop is dependent upon my actually finishing and delivering a revision, not necessariily on the quality of same. The idea is that if one gets feedback, one should and will apply same in some fashion and get a story out the door.
Must ... stop ... torturing self. Must just do the work. Away I go. I'll report later on the progress. And if I'm really good, maybe I'll give myself time to write one of the aforementioned essays. Any preferences on which comes first? (Can you tell that I've become enamored of the whole polling thing here?)
[Poll #464671]
Post-script:
jacqueline1776 a.k.a. Jacqueline Passey, mentioned in my previous LJ entry, has posted her notes on the online journaling panel I moderated at Norwescon. Very thorough. If I can't have an actual transcript, this is a nice substitute indeed.
Post post-script: My kitchen and livingroom windows face east. The sun rises over the house next door. The house next door has a chimney that's lost some bricks on one side. Today, as the sun rises over the house next door, it casts the shadow of the chimney onto the drawn Venetian blinds in my livingroom. The shadow of the chimney looks like an enormous mitten bidding me good morning.
