Jane Eyre and me
Sat, Sep. 13th, 2003 05:59 pmReading (gasp!) for pleasure
Have taken the opportunity presented by necessary horizontalness to finish reading a book I received for my birthday, The Eyre Affair, by Jasper Fforde. It's absolutely charming and I've enjoyed it more than many books I've read recently. The Salon review I've linked to above summarizes the book much better than I can in my besniffled state, but suffice it to say it's a murder/kidnapping mystery set in an alternate reality where time traveling is possible and fictional characters leap in and out of the pages of novels with remarkable frequency. The title of the book refers to the key individual kidnapped, and if you're a Jane Eyre devotee like myself, then this book will offer even more pleasures than it might at first glance. Highly recommended.
Weird Science
On a completely unrelated subject, lest ye think that Seattle's lost its weird/hip cache here's an article from today's Seattle Times that will restore your faith. Sweetie, bedii, and Jon Singer in particular may find this article interesting.
