What are blogs for?

scarlettinaI'm not sure if they're a social experiment in electronic support networking; serial editorializing on life, culture and politics; or just pure self indulgence. Perhaps they're all three. I'd like my blog to be the middle one, but I always fear that it's the first or last one. (Should I fear that? I'm not sure.)
This morning, I looked into my Friends page to discover a link to Theresa Neilsen-Hayden's blog, Making Light, and find myself suddenly feeling inadequate and terribly self indulgent. I wish I could be so cogent, insightful and just plain brainy-literate. I have a my moments; I just wish they happened a little more often.
