The Space Needle Space Race

A month or more ago, I entered the Space Needle Space Race. This morning I received email telling me that I've been chosen as one of 1,000 contestants to enter a video and explain why I should be the one to win the suborbital flight. If I ever wrote or created anything that makes a compelling argument, it'll have to be this thing. Of course, I need to figure out how to make a video, and I need to figure out how to make it compelling, funny, and interesting. And it needs to be submitted by January 15. Anyone local have fierce video and editing skills that can come to my aid?

Things I want to write about when time and focus allow:

-- Seeing "Hugo" and thoughts about Scorsese's identity as a director
-- "The President's Analyst," acquired tastes, and 1960s/1970s flashbacks (yes, [livejournal.com profile] e_bourne, [livejournal.com profile] markbourne shared this flick with me)
-- The possibility of adding another cat to the household
-- To travel or not to travel in 2012
-- The holidays and suddenly having family

Congratulations!

I loved The President's Analyst. My work experiences in college probably made it funnier for me.

I never worked for TPC, but I do have a The President's Analyst ringtone on my phone. (I spent YEARS looking for it.)

I believe the word we're looking for here (as confirmed elsewhere) is "geek." :-)

You should include in your video the words "I like Skyway Soap because it is as pure as the sky itself!" http://gpnp.net/backshelves.gpnp.net/001%20scifi%20ebooks/scifi%20fav%20authors/heinlein%20ebooks/Robert%20A%20Heinlein%20-%20Have%20Space%20Suit%20Will%20Travel.pdf

(Wow, the number of retroanachronisms in the first three chapters alone is amazing. Three paper newspapers in a small town, tuning in a hand-built black-and-white TV, dancing cigarette packs on a variety show...)

We have a Flip for filming, but it only does NTSC 640x480. Do you need hi-res? You'll probably want to talk to Hank, who used to run his own industrial film company, was an editor, and has a still camera that does hi-res video. He's in a hell of a time crunch--finals on Tue, flying to a wedding to give away the bride on Wed--but his schedule may open up after this week.

Very cool - best of luck!

Congratulations! Wow!
I'd second asking Hank. He has the tools and know how for the project. I can do video on my camera and I'm happy to help but I know nothing about making videos. Heh, look at my "Geoduck Blues" video--no production values.

What a tremendous opportunity Janna. I'm giddy just thinking about it. If you go send me a postcard! :)

Wow!

How exciting! No - wait - that requires more than one exclamation point. How exciting!!!!! Good luck! And, yes, Hank.

I have been watching way too much Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, because all I can think of to say is "Awesome!"
