The scary thing is...she really believes this
Last night, on The Big Idea, Ann Coulter decided to tell the world what she really thinks about Jews. Apparently, we need to be "perfected." In the Gospel According to Coulter, Christians don't have to obey the laws of the Torah or their Bible because they've got the fast track to heaven. (That's almost an exact quote.) What makes it worse is that, when she tries to explain herself she makes it even worse. (If you watch the first video above, it will directly lead into the second video.)
And the scary thing is, she doesn't see anything questionable, curious, or offensive about what she's saying. There sits Donny Deutsch, the host of the show, saying to her, "You want me to stop being Jewish so I can be 'perfected' and you think that's okay? You're an educated woman. How can you say that?" And she just doesn't get it. There's a total disconnect between what she says she believes and the realistic extrapolation of her belief.
I've always thought she was a bigot. This is just one more argument in favor of same. But the clips have to be seen to be believed. Bigotry in action, delivered rationally, straight-faced, from a blond in a hideous dress.

And since when does Jerry Falwell saying someone gets to go to Heaven have anything to do with ... anything? Does she really think Jews care that Falwell says they get to go to heaven? Because if Falwell said I get to go to heaven I'd be looking for the ticket office for an exchange ASAP. *cringe*
[cuts catty comment on Coulter's nose]

It drives me crazy that people can make a good living at being nothing more than a skinny blonde republican loudmouth. I won't say that she's pretty, because I honestly don't think she is, but if other people didn't think she was she sure as hell wouldn't get the air time she does.

Rev. Jeffery Lee (who is currently up for Bishop in another state) said something during a class I was taking from him, "I have no desire to make Jews into Christians. However, I think it would be good if we Christains were better Jews."
Even in the Christian Bible, St. Paul says that Christians are merely a branch grafted to the olive tree that is the Jewish Faith.
Although I'm afraid that since her name has been out of the headlines for a couple of months that this is just something to put her name back in the lime-light. I doubt she really cares about faith of any kind at all.

The way he did by inviting her on his show in the first place? And then, after she spews her shit, plugging her book at the end? Donny is part of the problem and he knows it and he's taking it all the way to the bank.

A few years ago I was reading a blog and it referred to this "Coulter" character in terms of being a Child of Satan. At the time I had no idea who or what she was. I wish I were still in that happy state.

Perfect
Re: Perfect
Speaking of which, the e-mail address I have for you seems rto have stopped working, and I really want to see you sometime soon. E-mail me and let's set something up?
Well, for years. . .
But this is someone who wants an authoritarian regime, run by, and for the benefit of, folks who are like her - rich, white (or white-conformist), straight (or straight-conformist), (at least nominally) Christian, and believers in authoritarianism. I say, if it walks like a duck, and the shoe fits, and. . . well you get the idea.
There are those who say of her (as they say of other odious gasbags like Rush Limbaugh), "Oh, she doesn't actually believe this stuff, it's just an act - it pushes ratings. She puts it on for the money". I don't think that's true, but even if it was. . . wouldn't that be even worse?
I think of folks like Coulter as pathological liars - they have (for whatever reason) convinced themselves that this crap they're peddling has merit. Maybe it is for the money, or fame,
or drugs(ahem) . . . Her "religious viewpoint" seems to be a skewed interpretation of the traditions of a small percentage of Protestants - Calvinistic predetermination/"Gospel of Wealth" stuff - i.e. if you're rich, it means God has already picked you for salvation, and it's pretermined, so any horrible thing you do is just God's will, and you're already saved, so it's OK, right? ::shudder:: It's a standpoint so bizarre that it seems offensive to put it under the "Christian" category, since there is exactly 0% Jesus in it.Wow. That really got my rant on. :)
P.S. I should probably admit that I didn't actually get a chance to see the videos, since they're on MSN, and I'm on a Mac that can't seem (somehow) to view any fancy MSN content. . . funny how that works. :P
Re: Well, for years. . .
When it comes to female right wing nut-jobs, I find Michelle Malkin both a better writer (but still a nut-job) and better looking. And defending the internment of US citizens of Japanese ancestry is a much more interesting outrage than a statement that's fairly commonplace among Christian-extremists. It also an amusingly ironic position, given the fact that, as a US-born child of Philippine parents, she might easily have been swept up in the internments of people of Japanese ancestry, because the internment orders often did a bad job distinguishing whether people had Japanese or other Asian ancestries.
Anyway, I try to avoid the blonde harpy as much as I can.

I read a transcript of the broadcast, and a couple of commentaries - one pro-Coulter, one anti-Coulter. The commentaries had sections for reader input.
I think the most disturbing thing to me, reading the comments on those articles, is the number of people who said (paraphrased) "Actually, she was simply discussing established Christian doctrine. It's ridiculous to call her statements offensive - anyone who is offended by them is simply ignorant, at best."
What flawed logic allows people to believe that when they agree with Coulter's perspective, they are unbiased enough to objectively judge whether her statements are generally offensive to anyone outside her point of view?
Failure to agree does not equal a lack of understanding, and being informed that I am unable to reliably judge what I personally find offensive is more insulting than what Coulter said (and yes, that was *really* bad).

Silly stupid git
When I get over being flabbergasted by this, I may be able to make a coherent statement. Maybe - 'cause I'm still not over being flabberghasted by her last twenty-three statements.

Oh, sure she does. It's how she earns her paycheck.
I read the transcript of this, and my favorite part was how Donny just kept impotently expressing his weak disbelief, so that he could allow her to keep repeating what she was saying. It's all a sham. It won't stop him from hanging out with her at Manhattan cocktail parties.
