Dream journal: alligators
Dreamed last night that I was living somewhere that had flooded (Seattle?) and that I stood on the end of a pier catching alligators with my bare hands and chopping off their heads with a chainsaw. This was a neater process in my dream than I suspect it would be in real life; the chainsaw behaved more like an electric knifeno fuss, no muss. Things got a little weird when I discovered that one of the alligators I picked up was purring; suddenly taking a chainsaw to it became a sad and cruel thing.
I don't know where this came from. I'm not sure I want to find out.
(Anyone ever notice time-stampy weirdness on LJ? I posted this at 8:38 AM, and LJ originally marked it 2:38 PM--before I manually corrected it. My profile is set for PDT; why would LJ do that? How weird is that?)

That's Great!
The fact that these threatening things are represented by alligators is significant (unless you happened to channel surf through a documentary on allligators recently ;) ). These are "sneaky" or hidden dangers. Alligators sneak up on ya-or hang about looking like harmless logs. So, the issues being dealt w/ in your dream aren't obvious in your face problems.
At the very least, they're lurking around the edges of your life-you catch a glimpse and then it either submerges or you wonder to yourself. "Hm, was that just a log?" It's also very (more?) that they represent INTERNAL issues. In either case, I'm glad your subconscious so easily dispatched them-not even making a mess!

The purring alligator is clearly an indication that somewhere out there in the swamp we call life, there is a good soul or two. I believe you will eventually find that purring alligator. Soon.

Gator Dream
If they represent Sobek, then you are rejecting his aspect of divine reincarnation, in favor of punishment of yourself (the flirtation with Sekhmet/Bast, the cat purring, unless this is the aspect of Bast for good health)
But if they represent Ammit, who after all only had the head of a crocodile but with sometimes the mid-quarters of a cat, then you are celebrating your victory over death and damnation.
(and don't anyone flame me for the fact that gators and crocs aren't exactly the same reptile; I know that!)

Purring
When I started college I kept having weird dreams that blue cats were climbing all over me. One morning I woke up and looked at my quilt and it suddenly dawned on me that my quilt was covered with blue cats. I never had the dream again. Hmmmm....
Re: Purring
Oh, I'm almost sure that's what happened. Both my boys are aggressive about getting affection, especially in the morning (after I've spent a whole night just lying there, not petting them! The nerve!). It was weird, however, to pick up a vibrating alligator.
