DNC day 3 from the couch

In case anyone's curious, I've been watching C-SPAN for the complete, uninterrupted coverage of the proceedings, and then flipping to MSNBC to see Olbermann and his people do commentary. It drives me crazy when I see talking heads ignoring key speakers, so I'm editing my own coverage.

This viewing choice enabled me to see John's Kerry's fiery, passionate speech in one piece, uninterrupted. He tore McCain to pieces, and after seeing Kerry I'll take issue with any commentator who says the Dems haven't hit hard at McCain yet. If Kerry had shown the kind of fire and power he showed tonight during his campaign four years ago, he would have been elected without blinking an eye. You can read the transcript, or try to catch the speech streaming online somewhere. It's worth seeing him fire up the crowd. He was terrific.

I thought Bill Clinton was very good--not the best I've ever seen him, but very, very good. I think he was convincing in his endorsement of Obama. He broadened the discussion to foreign relations in a way no one else has yet. And I think that he used his personal charisma to fine effect on behalf of Obama's cause.

Lastly, I thought Joe Biden was very moving. I was almost disappointed that Obama showed up when he did. My feeling was that this was Biden's moment and Obama stole a little of that thunder from him. At the same time, I have to admit that I had a moment, finally seeing the two of them together on stage. There it was, our historic choice, and I was excited and moved.

Tomorrow should be fascinating.

Watching selected speeches and roll call via YouTube, because my only other option is CNN and...bleah.

My connection's not great, so streaming videos problematic, bu I'm getting the audio feed clearly, at least.

(and anything that gets me up at 5am to download videos....OMG need coffee!)

*sigh* Y'know, I've missed all of it. Ah well. I'll still have election night. =) I too edit my politics by channel flipping.

Interesting! Thanks for the commentary—I've seen nothing from nobody yet.

I've been watching most everything streaming from demconvention.com -- no talking heads at all which is just how I like it. I missed the roll call and Kerry, but just managed to find them on youtube, so I'm all caught up. :-)

I like Biden too. He's got a tell-it-like-it-is, under rehearsed delivery that works very well for him and allows him to connect with the audience in a way many of the other speakers can't.

Caught most of the speeches on BBC and MSNBC. Kerry was on fire, no doubt. Like you, I wish he'd pulled that Kerry out the box last election. The more I see of Joe Biden, the more I like him, too.

See, it's the talking heads and their "I'm sticking to the story I came up with for that guy 5 years ago" that make me want to stick my toes in my ears. Lazy bastards. That's one of the reasons I stopped watching. Forgot about C-SPAN.

The little I have watched live was CSpan.

My allergies to the talking heads have saved me yet again. Even when I like them. But Olbermann is really in his depth during his comments, I don't need him the rest of the time.

You might think of Barack as stealing Joe's thunder from him, but I honestly think that Joe's thunder will come when he rips the throat out of the Repub. VP pick in the VP debate. Joe's thunder is the thunder that peals with the lifeblood of your enemy in your teeth.

And it's a coming.

I saw Kerry at a fund-raiser in Seattle, and he was fantastic. Like you say, if he were anywhere near as good at speaking for Obama as he had been at speaking for himself, he'd be running for re-election now.
