It's scary...

...to spend a lot of money in one lump sum. But the new piece of furniture has been ordered and it's a fait accompli. It will look beautiful in the new room and provide good (and good-looking) storage.

Still, one chunk of cash gone. It's scary because I didn't charge it (f*ck the credit card company and thank you Uncle Sam); I debited it so the money is well and truly spent. Hrm. I'm sure I'll get over it when the piece arrives.

In the meanwhile, it's awful pretty.

Six drawers across the top, two on the second and third rows each.

It's lovely . . . and that (makes rude gesture) to the credit card companies!

[identity profile] scarlettina.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
I've made it a goal (not a resolution, for that way lies madness) to try to go toward a 100% cash approach this year and get myself the heck out of credit card debt. It's going to be a challenge, but I'm trying. Fingers crossed.

And yeah, ain't it loverly? :-)

[identity profile] mikigarrison.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm working on a similar goal, and it is definitely a challenge. I'm slowly getting better, although I've had to use all sorts of tricks and whatnot to get myself there.

Love the new storage furniture, though! :D

Add me to the list of people trying to kick the credit habit...though it's a lot harder given my current situation. At the very least I'm cutting down on it, only using the things when absolutely necessary (like when I'm between freelance checks!)

[identity profile] scarlettina.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I can totally see that. I've gotten so used to relying on credit that it's gotten to be just a bad habit. And with my neuroses surrounding money management to begin with (it's part of what comes with being orphaned early), it's that much worse. I finally decided, after spending the first three months of the year just in denial about financial stuff, that I need to just be really proactive about my decision-making and bill-paying. I'm hoping that, within three months, it'll really pay off. ::fingers crossed::

It's going to be especially tricky this spring, with me planning one trip for sure, and maybe another for later this summer.

[identity profile] mikigarrison.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Speaking of travel and credit cards, I finally got around to buying plane tickets to go visit my friend Stevie in new york this may. :D

[identity profile] pixxelpuss.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
That is GORGEOUS. I've wanted one just like it for awhile now. First you made me jealous with your gorgeous red bedroom, and now this?? Your place is going to look AMAZING.

[identity profile] scarlettina.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Or at least, better than it did before. :-) Looking forward to your seeing it firsthand.

Very pretty. And speaking of spending a big chuck of change all at once, I mailed my tax check on Tuesday, without knowing whether my broker will sell enough shares to get the money into the account before the IRS cashes the check.

[identity profile] steve98052.livejournal.com 2008-04-19 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
I know. I was quite worried. Fortunately, he got caught up on his calls and made the sales before disaster struck, so all is well. Except the fact that I have to pay that much, of course. (Even so, I shouldn't be complaining too much. I only had to pay that much because I made a decent amount. And because of our unfair tax system, the percentage rate was very low.)

Wow. That's lovely. And I must tell you how much I enjoyed the Bejeweled Geekery engagement story.

Wasn't that sweet? Geeky people are cool. :-)

Excellent choice! Love the nod towards Asia.

[identity profile] neutronjockey.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It does look like a Chinese apothecary cabinet.

[identity profile] scarlettina.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been wanting something with a little Asian flavor to it. I just have to make sure that I don't overdo it.

Sweet!

That's very pretty, and it will be lovely in The Room.

Very Pretty

[identity profile] bjcooper.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
The child who lives with us has a nice Asian piece in her room - ask her next time you're over. Not that grand, though! Good on you for both the purchase and the cash purchase.

Nice job!

[identity profile] tbclone47.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
It's beautimous! I know how you feel. Just spent a lot of money in one lump myself, for a new mattress set. . .

[identity profile] scarlettina.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Beautimous! I like that.

I remember being freaked out by the amount of money I spent when I bought my current mattress set (which is looking a little wilted in the middle all these years later). I remember thinking that it was crazy to spend so much. But every night when I sleep well, the price is totally justified. One good night on your new set, and the cost won't mean a thing. That's why I'm sure that once the console is in and doing what I need it to do, I won't think twice about its cost.

And, like you said, it's beautimous. :-)

[identity profile] sleightgirl.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooooh, that's so pretty!...and now I'm suffering from furniture envy...good job!

[identity profile] scarlettina.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. Guess you've got to go shopping. :)

[identity profile] skidspoppe.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Sweet!

Now I have to plan a trip to come up and see it in person!

[identity profile] scarlettina.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh darn, you're going to visit again.

::grin::

Would love to have you here again. The house will be very different when you arrive.

oh, I LOVE it!
Are those individual drawers or what?

[identity profile] scarlettina.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The top six are individual drawers. The second and third rows are two drawers each. I couldn't have used something that didn't have big drawers in it, no matter how pretty it was. This is more practical, and the left middle drawer is a smart drawer, in that it includes a power strip into which you can plug your cell phone, MP3 player and so on for recharging, thereby avoiding clutter. Pretty darn cool.
