Gary Gygax

From Wired:
Gary Gygax, one of the co-creators of the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, died Tuesday morning at his home in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, according to Stephen Chenault, CEO of Troll Lord Games.

He changed the world. That about says it all.

I never met the man, but many of my friends and colleagues did. Sympathies, my friends.

I've met him a couple of times at GenCon. He always had this ... passion for gamers. He loved GenCon and the people who attended it. And it showed.

Safe Journey, Mr. Gygax.

I never met him, but he had a HUGE impact on my life.

I still clearly remember the day I want over to a friend's house and they had this game I had never seen before. I was still in Elementary school and it shaped my whole future.

He died on DM's Day. If we had to lose one of the folks who made the roleplaying hobby what it is today, I suppose it is fitting that it was today.

No matter what games we play, or what we may think of D&D, I don't think there's an RPG fan out there who doesn't acknowledge the debt the hobby owes to Mr. Gygax.

I've always liked weird intersections - like the way I bought my first copy of D&D at Nordstroms in Bellevue. I didn't keep up with it - I traded my share in it to my brothers for reasons I can't even remember now - but it's been a part of the world I live in ever since.

"I don't think I've really grokked it yet," said Mike Mearls, the lead developer of the upcoming 4th edition of Dungeons and Dragons.

Okay, that cannot seriously be a real quote.
