The weekend in a few key points

Drove down to Portland. Stayed with the delightful [livejournal.com profile] kateyule and [livejournal.com profile] davidlevine. Attended JayCon, [livejournal.com profile] jaylake's annual birthday extravaganza and had a marvelous time. (See pictures at Flickr.) Watched a little Sherlock with my hosts. Had a lovely Sunday brunch. Did a little shopping (bought interesting pasta, beads, and clothes). Headed back to Seattle having had a perfectly lovely time.

Went to bed last night at 11ish. Was awakened at 12:30 AM by police pounding on the downstairs neighbor's door making a "welfare call." I feel like a zombie this morning. In the last year, since these people moved in, I've been awakened in the middle of the night more often than in the last 12 years I've lived here. And I don't seem to have any recourse.

It's a condo. I own my unit. The unit below mine is owned by a man who lives offsite and purchased it for his son. The son and girlfriend are the offenders. I've tried to deal with the father as the owner of the unit; he referred me to the son. I've tried to deal with the con; he ducks me. I brought up the noise issue at the last condo association meeting; the son was there and wouldn't look at me. It's been quiet since then; this is the first I've been disturbed in a while.

But I've investigated recourse via the condo association--fines and such--and the language about noise is too vague to be enforceable. When I broached the subject of making the language enforceable, the entire association pushed back. I live in Seattle, where confrontation is so anathema that people will have a confrontation about avoiding it. ::sigh::
