Boxing Day = Doctor Who

Got together last night with my usual Doctor Who crew to view this year's Christmas special, "The Next Doctor." No spoilers here: I just want to say that I enjoyed it hugely and that it was, generally speaking, a vast improvement over recent past efforts. At this point, I think my quality rating/favorites in order from best to worst would be:

--The Next Doctor (David Morrisey has stolen my heart, and the super-sized surprise was pretty cool even if it was an RTD moment)
--The Christmas Invasion (Rose spends way too much time weeping, the Doctor too much time sleeping, but the Sycorax are cool, Harriet Jones is back, the Doctor and Rose rediscover each other, and I dig the whole blood control storyline)
--The Runway Bride (Donna was too obnoxious to live)
--Voyage of the Damned (Blech!)

The company was quite fine, and the food was delicious.

Oh, and the big news is that the snow is melting and finally, finally my car is on the move and I'm mobile again. Yay!

Thinking, decisions, less is more and so on

Decided that I won't be attending either RustyCon or RadCon. I'll miss seeing folks. But I don't have the money, and if I do find a job, it's unlikely I'll be able to get time off so early in a new position. It'll keep me from adding to what debt I have, which is a goodness. But like I said, I'll miss seeing folks. RadCon Bob's already offered a measure of Jewish-mother guilt--I promised him I'd attend next year.

Also, I'm looking into what it would mean for me to go back to school. I'm doing research. I'll post more here when I know more.

I'm continuing to divest myself of stuff. I have a theory that if I do all this right, then it'll take only one new bookcase to put away the last of the homeless books in my place, and I've made space for said bookcase. The acquisition may take place later this week.

Not only do I need one more bookcase, but I need a couple of tall floor lamps. I'll be trolling sources this week. (12/28/08, 8:30 AM: ETA: I trolled Craigslist and discovered some possibilities that will cost me almost nothing--woohoo!)

Back to the decluttering and cleaning. My house may actually look presentable tomorrow.
