Speaking of bezoars...
Wed, Dec. 7th, 2005 08:14 pmHad my hair cut and colored tonight. Took off about four inches. Given how long my hair had gotten, this actually isn't very much. It's short enough to be curly again instead of just wavy and I like how it looks. Only . . .
My stylist confirmed for me what I've been suspecting the last couple of weeks. She asked me if I'd been noticing more-than-average hair loss, because she said I was shedding much more than she'd ever seen in the past. (I've been seeing her about 7 years now, so she really knows my head.) I had, in fact, been noticing, whenever I brushed my hair, that more than usual seemed to be coming away in the brush. It seems that one sign of iron deficiency is hair loss. One sign of vitamin deficiency generally is hair loss. She recommended I see my doctor and that I up my usual one iron supplement a day to two. I refuse to get paranoid about this (more than is warranted anyway). My annual check-up is in January and I'll talk to my doctor about it then. Is it unsettling? Yeah, a little, otherwise I wouldn't mention it here. But at least I know now that I'm not imagining it. And it's probably nothing more serious than my usual (since childhood) anemia. Must monitor myself more carefully.
